Winter Royals March into Grand Final

Sandringhams Winter team played their semi-final at home on Saturday 31st August against Dingley in good conditions before a nice sized crowd. The Royals attack , much hyped by this correspondent, made good on its’ potential as we ran out 10-1 victors. Backed by a miserly defense based on the accurate and pacey pitching of David Housden and Josh Smith the Sandy hitters made scoreboard progress in 5 of our six innings. A slightly shaky start saw the first Dingley

Winter Royals Clinch Minor Premiership

Winter Baseball – Minor Premiers.  That particular term applies to your Sandy Royals representing the club this year in the Dandenong Baseball Association C Grade competition. We had a ripping year losing just two games of the 18 played whilst sharing the playing load across our roster of 16 team members. The depth of the squad allows us great flexibility both on the field and off the field when players need time away with family and business. This past Saturday

Winter Royals Match Report V Pumas

Our Winter baseball team had a comprehensive victory on Saturday against not a great team of baseballers but a good bunch of guys. Needing to win to give ourselves any chance of retaining top spot prior to the finals the Royals went back to our early plan and started Ben Kaplin who had shown good practice form. Ben was on song with a strikeout, a groundball to Rob at Shortstop and a beautifully executed pick-off to second base to snare

Match Report – Winter Royals v Mornington

Our DBA Winter Baseball team showed they know how to win a tight game when they came from behind to snatch a valuable victory at home on Saturday. The teams defense has never been in question, yet again allowing just one run during the course of the afternoon. Our pitching is strong and preparing well for the upcoming finals campaign whilst the fielding is pretty much trouble free. The odd throw and play being stuffed up is probably more the

Match Report – Winter Royals v Bonbeach

Sandy Royals V Bonbeach – Round 15 On what looked like a great day for our big hitters your Winter Royals were held to a tight fought 2 all draw by the third placed Blue Jays. The Bonbeach pitcher Glen Jones again had our measure for the majority of the game. Some of our players were battling the pitches thrown whilst others were seemingly throwing their turn at bat away with poor swing choices and poor techniques. The team has

Winter Royals Match Report v Black Pirates

Jack Giuliano field saw the Royals take on the Mornington Pirates Black team last Saturday. The Pirates have been in reasonable form and with Sandy having dropped a game last week it was crucial the Royals rebounded. Our pitching rotation had Josh Smith pencilled in for the start and his bullpen form from Wednesday night did not bode well for Mornington. Strangely though the Pirates started well with two hits to score an early run but when Josh fanned the

Winter Royals Match Report v Pakenham

On Melbourne’s coldest baseball day for a number of years our hardy Winter Royals travelled through hail and rain storms to do battle at Pakenham on Saturday. We were there as the Pumas celebrated their 20th Anniversary so we knew they would be keen to provide an upset victory for their club. With the wind blowing in and light showers coming and going the game was a good battle between two sides at either end of the ladder. The Royals

Winter Royals – Match Report v Mornington Black

Our Sandy Winter team bagged another victory on Saturday after over-powering the Mornington Pirates Black team. The final score saw us at 13-3 , bases loaded and two out with our final batter trying desperately to smack the cover off the ball and score some extra runs when Geoff Francis chimed in with the 10 run rule to finish us off. Standing at two runs apiece going into the third we eventually got moving with two out. Pete Forwood drew

Match Report – Winter Royals v Bonbeach

Saturdays clash at Tulip Street was delayed by rain but with some good ground work by the Sandy team we got underway just 25 minutes late. Bonbeach came into the round as a team on the rise and the Royals had to battle hard all day in order to retain top spot on the ladder. True to our plan for the year we started young Ben Kaplin with an experienced infield backing him up. In three innings of work he

Match Report – Winter Royals v Mornington

Saturdays game against Mornington Black was more of a struggle than the score line may indicate for your Sandy Royals winter team. A seemingly comfortable victory at 9-3 comes into true focus when it is revealed we scored 6 runs with two out in the third dig and a further run in the last in junk time. Down a few regular contributors we struggled to hit the ball long in the perfect but chilly conditions.  Josh Smith was again unstoppable

Winter Royals – Round 6

Sandy v Pakenham 1 June at Jack Guiliano Field Our Winter Royals cruised to a reasonably comfortable 10-4 victory on Saturday against a gallant but under-performing Pumas team. The Royals are now sitting at 6-1 and in second position. We enjoy the rare luxury of having two complete batteries to interchange throughout the season. This week it was Dave McKinnon starting with Steve Lester in relief pitching to Scott McLaughlin. Each one performed their role well with the pitchers surrendering
