Demons exact Revenge on Royals at Tulip St

December 19th:

It was great to see Greg Street, former club president, and Julie Lane, current Treasurer, both of whom had recently had lengthy stays in hospital, back down at Tulip St for Sunday’s home clash against Melbourne.  In addition, Reed Mason’s mum from the USA was in attendance and  Sam Street was slated to pitch…..in front of a big crowd, it had all the hallmarks of a great day.

However,  Melbourne came to Tulip Street determine to achieve a different result. Demon Starter Evan Brisintine was strong over 5 innings, shutting down the Royals to 0 runs and 4 hits, before handing the ball to  Andy Mann who gave up the only runs the Royals scored.

Reed started for the Royals and gave up 10 hits and 7 runs in his 5 innings of work, before handing over to Junior Jayson Arthur who saw 3 more runs on the board and two more runners in scoring position when relieved.  Sam Street in his first outing for the Royals this summer then allowed 2 hits for 2 more runs to see the Demons run out 12-2 winners in 7 innings.

The big Dees bats also came out swinging in the 2s, handing out their heaviest defeat of the year so far, 18 runs to 1.

The 3s match was a classic, after Melbourne went to a 2-0 lead after the 1st, the Royals clawed their way back into the game, tying the game 2-2 by top of the 7th….then scoring 3 runs to go ahead 5-2.  However,  hits and errors combined to give the Dees for runs in the bottom of the 7th, giving them a walk-off 6-5 win.

The 4s went out keen to avenge the 23-0 loss from last week, and lead the Dees 4-2 early, until the Melbourne bats got going, eventually going on to win 14-4.

So, at the Christmas break, we find the 1s are 5th in the West Conference with a 5-11 record.  The 2s sit 3rd on 7-4.  The 3s sit 5th with a record of 6-4-1.  The 4s are 10th with a record of 3-8.

Senior games start again on the 22nd of January, with a home game against Newport.

Some pics from Sunday are below (thanks Gil!)

And finally, a shout-out to one of our junior teams, our Junior League Minors who have had a tough season so far, but managed to get their first win on Sunday against Moorabbin.  After being 3-3 after the first, a 2 run home run by Peter Somogyi in the second was followed by lots of hits and scores….everyone was swinging the bat and everyone got a hit.   The final score was 15-14!  Congratulations to coaches Joe and Rob, and to the boys, we are sure there will be many more wins in store in the New Year.

Merry Christmas to everyone, good luck to all our juniors playing in the Nationals and State Championships over January, and we look forward to seeing you all down at the club in the New Year.
