On a cold night at Altona Ballpark, the Sandringham Royals lost their second mid-week game to the Fitzroy Lions 0 – 2 in 9 innings.
The 3 Lion’s pitchers, especially Josh Tols and Brock Pawley handcuffed the Royals to just 1 hit with 18 K’s. Brock Pawley’s bag of multiple fastballs and off-speed pitches struck out 9 Royals batters in 5 innings – the Royals had no answers.
Fitzroy’s runs came in the 1st and 3rd innings off Branden Stenhouse, who was relieved by young recruit Jayson Arthur. “Lefty” had a spectacular night on the mound – striking out five, allowing just 2 hits and 0 runs in 5.1 innings, but the Royals bats weren’t able muster enough on base runners to support him.
The Royals move to 3-2 on the season, and face a stern test on the weekend against reigning premiers Essendon out at Boeing Reserve.
