Friday Night Rookie Ball gets Underway

October 10:

The Sandy Kings and Royals opened up their 2015-16 season against our neighbourhood rivals Moorabbin on Friday night at Tulip Street.

Most of these players have graduated from T-Ball last season so this is the first time they have learned how to pitch, catch and hit live pitching which is a major threshold for all the players.

For the Royals, we had five pitchers and five players put on the catching gear for the first time and it was a great experience it was for each of them.

The Royals got off to a great start with Ted Hampshire starting on the mound and with Owen Roberts catching they struck out 3 batters in the first inning.

The Royals scored their first run of the season in the first inning on a single (his first) by Jye Holt scoring Owen Roberts putting the Royals ahead.

The defence made us all very proud and has proven that our training has paid off and the players are learning what we are teaching.  When they got the ball, they knew what to do and we must give a special shout out to Alex Brown who made a great catch on a high fly ball in centerfield to end the fourth inning!

The team added on four more runs over the next five innings and was on their way to their first victory of the season.

We want to thank all the parents who got involved and helped out during the game, it is really great to have you be a part the experience.

Welcome to all our new players this season!
