Sandringham Royals 3 defeated Doncaster Dragons 2
In a tight game at Melbourne Ball Park last night [Tuesday 8.12.15] the Royals overcame the Dragons again with a 3-2 win in 7 innings.
The win was set-up in the top of the first, the Royals scoring 3 runs, from 2 walks to Jordy Barnett & Jake Wonnacott, an error by Doncaster’s 3rd baseman and a double to Declan Ferguson.
Doncaster replied with one run in the bottom of the first off Brayden McConkey who gave up a walk and a single to left field.
Pitchers then dominated the game, lefty Simon Fitzmaurice for Doncaster, and Brayden McConkey and hard-throwing Brandon Stenhouse for Sandringham.
The Dragons added a second run in the 4th, but were shut-down by Royals closer Terry Jeon. The Royals nearly scored again in the 7th, but were denied by a relayed throw from Ryan Morris’s single to right field via 1st base with Cameron Beaumont out at 3rd base.
Once again the Royals were out-hit 5-3 by the Dragons, but were able to come away with the win with their aggressive play.
The Royals now move to 7 and 7 on the season, and third place in their conference. They face a stern challenge this week, playing 2nd placed Essendon out at Boeing Field.
