Sandringham Royals 2 defeated Doncaster Dragons 1

The Royals stunned the visiting Dragons by scoring the tying and go-ahead 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th after trailing one-nil since the 5th inning.

Having scored just one hit off Dragon Import Starter Justin Lawrence[10 strike-outs 2 walks 71% strike-rate] in 8 innings it was up to the Royals young guns to save the day, as Josh Meyer [single to centre field] Jordy Barnett [double to right field], and Ryan Morris [double to right field] all got hits in the 9th.

Ryan Morris’s double saw Jordy Barnett cross the plate with the winning run, thrilling the large crowd who had attended the splendid Royals Club luncheon.

Spencer Jack started on the mound again after an injury break with 5 solid innings [5 strike-outs, 1 walk, 3 hits, 1 run] then relieved by Brayden McConkey [2 innings, 1 strike-out, 1 walk, 2 hits, 0 runs].  Sam Street closed the game with 2 innings to get the win [2 strike-outs, 0 walks, 4 hits, 0 runs].

The win sees the Royals now in 6th position on the ladder with a 6 and 7 record.  Dragons and Royals face off again on Tuesday at Melbourne Ball Park on Tuesday, game time 6:30pm.
