Essendon handed Sandringham their most crushing defeat this season on Sunday, the Royals going down 5-16 in the bottom of the 8th under the mercy rule.
The Bombers were on the board in the 1st, with 3 runs [including 2 home runs to Tom Dicker & Tim Sullivan]. They added a further 3 runs in the 2nd with Spencer Jack on the mound.
The Royals started slowly, but scored a total of 5 runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th inning to be down 5-7 at the bottom of the 6th inning.
Brayden McConkey & Brandon Stenhouse relieved for the Royals, allowing 4 more runs [1 off Brayden, 3 off Brandon including 2 more home runs to Sam Moon & Liam Bedford]. The real damage was done when Terry Jeon took to the mound to close. Terry gave up 7 more hits, including a 5th home run to Brett Tamburino, in 1 1/3 innings of work.
Although the Royals pitchers struck out 9 Bombers, they walked 9 batters which added to Essendon’s run total. In fairness, the home runs were mostly over the centre field fence which at 365′ is less than typical,
