Sandringham Royals 2 lost to Cheltenham Rustlers 3
The Royals winning streak ended with a close, hard fought game at Farm Road on Sunday.
The Royals began aggressively scoring 2 runs – one in the second, one in the third, putting them in front of the Rustlers who scored just one in the second.
They held this lead until the 7th when the Terry Jeon was adjudged to have balked allowing a Rustler on third home to tie the game.
Brayden McConkey had started for the Royals allowing just 5 hits in 4 innings of work. Sam Street then relieved Brayden with 2 dominant innings, striking out 3 and allowing just one hit.
Terry Jeon was then called to the mound to close the game. After the balk in the 7th, he threw a solid 8th, but in the 9th a wild throw from short, a sac bunt and intentional walk, loaded the bases with one out in the 9th. The Royals, seeking a second double play to get out of the innings, didn’t go to plan as two further hits to the Rustlers saw them come away with a 3 – 2 win.
Sandringham 2 runs 8 hits 1 error Tony Cevec 2 h, Ryan Morris 2 h, Marco Lezaic 2 h.
Cheltenham 3 runs 10 hits 2 errors Ben Leslie 2 h, Brad Kmet 2 h.
The Royals get a chance again against the Rustlers, with a home mid-weeker at Tulip St on Wednesday, game time 6pm.
