Sandringham’s visit to Waverley on Wednesday night saw the Royals produce a great win over the Wildcats.
Brayden McConkey, who has been steadily making a comeback on the mound after a demanding Winter Season with Dingley, started on the mound, and in 2 2/3 innings, he gave up just one run from 4 hits by the Wildcats.
Terry Jeon took over and in a marvellous outing gave up 0 runs, 0 walks, 2 hits, and 4 strike-outs in 4 1/3 innings to capture the win for the Royals.
The Royals bats fired up in the 2 hour game, with hits to Tony Cevec, Jake Wonnacott, 2 hits to Ryan Morris, and a solo home run over left field fence to catcher Dave Armstrong.
The pressure on the Wildcats from the Royal’s aggressive base-running (2 stolen bases, a sac bunt & 2 sac flies) saw the Wildcats make 5 fielding errors, allowing the Royals to score 7 runs off 6 hits.
FINAL: Sandringham 7 runs 6 hits 1 error, Waverley 1 run 6 hits 5 errors.
The Royals now move to 4-5 on the table, with a Sunday game this week against old rivals, Cheltenham Rustlers, followed up by a return clash midweek next Wednesday at Tulip St against the Rustlers again.
Please support the 1s as they look to make it 3 straight wins by heading over to Farm Rd on Sunday, and then back for our only midweeker this year on Wednesday.
