On a hot windy evening at Latrobe, the Royals were on the board early with runs in the first two innings from 2 errors, 3 pass balls, and 2 stolen bases by Tony Cevec.
Brayden McConkey started on the mound for the Royals, and held the Pirates scoreless in the first innings, however, they got on the board in the 2nd and 3rd with 2 runs from 3 walks and 2 balks, one hit, a sac bunt and a sac fly.
Pirates starter Masa Hashiguchi allowed 2 more runs to the Royals from 4 hits in the 3rd and 4th innings.
Brayden then began to struggle putting 2 runners on in the bottom of the 4th, so Terry Jeon was called from the bullpen to relieve. Terry didn’t start well, allowing 1 hit, throwing 1 wild pitch, 1 stolen base and an infield error and a pass ball, for a total of 5 runs.
The Pirates continued through the 5th and 6th leading 7-4, however a tiring starter in the 7th allowed a triple to centre-field by Tony Cevec who then scored by an infield wild throw to first. Bubbie Buzachero replaced Hasaguchi, and proceeded to give up 3 hits in succession resulting in 2 runs to the Royals, tying up the game at 7-7.
Terry Jeon pitched the 7th innings, and closed the game out pitching to just 3 batters. A Pirate lead-off hit was nullified by a caught stealing effort by Royals catcher Marco Lezaic, Pirates coach Dean Marnell struck out, and Ben Jackson gave up a deep foul flyball to Tony Cevec.
