Last night’s mid-weeker against Cheltenham was a tightly contested affair in front off a good crowd for a cool evening.
In our first home mid-weeker for the year, young pitchers were thrown onto the mound from both teams, and in the end, Cheltenham prevailed 2-1 in a tight battle.
Cheltenham’s pitcher Lachie Madden was steady all night, not giving up a walk and just 4 hits through 5 innings.
Sandringham started Jayson Arthur on the mound, his first start at Senior level. He, combined with other young pitchers, Jackson Boyd and Mitchell Wilcox, gave up 6 walks and 5 hits over 5 innings.
So, in what was a low-scoring affair, the ability of Cheltenham to turn double plays when Sandy had base runners was the difference, and when bad light stopped play after 80 minutes, Cheltenham held sway 2 – 1.
The Royals back up for their third home game in a week, with a home game on Sunday against Preston.
