A message from Rick Wills, President of the Sandringham Baseball Club:
On behalf of the Sandringham Baseball Club Committee, I would like to acknowledge and thank everyone who contributed in some way to our Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day on Sunday.
The day can be regarded as a resounding success given that the objective of the day was to raise awareness of this disease which affects so many women each day.
I believe I am right and very proud in saying that, as a club, we did that on Sunday.
It was very satisfying to see the sea of teal, with the majority of club member buying the teal shirts and many parents also supporting the cause with the purchase of the symbolic teal ribbon as a show of support.
To all the parents who supported the “hamper drive” it was amazing and again rewarding to see the support from all for this cause. I cannot thank you enough and must especially mention Julie Fontana who lead the charge and held fast on the selling concept of the tickets.
To all the junior players (Little Leaguers) who commenced the arduous task of selling tickets on Friday night, and are primarily responsible for final amount, they earnt their occasional slurpee on a very hot day and I say thank you.
Other notable efforts include Adam Diamond who took a collection tin to work and collected over $110.00 in a couple of days…. fantastic!
To the club members who helped with the clean up afterwards, it was really appreciated after a long long day.
On field, the day was also a resounding success with all senior teams coming away with a win… and as a club we welcomed the members of Dingley Baseball Club to the clubrooms who joined in for the day and to also farewell the popular American Matt Heller.
It was a memorable day for Matt as well.
In closing, I hope and encourage members to continue to raise the awareness of Ovarian Cancer.
This charity desperately needs public support to raise their profile to gain financial support.
Support can be as simple as wearing the teal t-shirt and being aware of some of the facts….this disease impacts many families each year, awareness can reduce the risk.
Below are a few photos from the day. There are more on the Sandringham Baseball Club’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SandringhamRoyalsBaseballClub/) or on our Instagram page (@sandyroyalsbc).
I encourage you to take a look and reflect on a great day for Sandringham Baseball Club.
