February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and Sandringham Baseball Club is having it’s Cancer Charity Day on February 3rd to help bring attention and raise money for research into this deadly disease.
Every day, 4 Australian women are diagnosed and 3 women will die from ovarian cancer. It is the most underfunded and the deadliest female cancer in Australia.
There is no early detection test for ovarian cancer, and we don’t know the causes of most ovarian cancer. Research into the causes of ovarian cancer is continuing in Australia and overseas.
Each year over 1,600 women in Australia will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In the past 30 years, other cancers have been able to achieve amazing improvements in awareness, funding and survival rates and we want the same hope for our women. While some progress has been made for ovarian cancer there is still so much we need to do.
For the state of ovarian cancer to improve, we need major changes in awareness, treatment, and funding. You can find more information about ovarian cancer and Ovarian Cancer Australia at https://ovariancancer.net.au/
So on February 3rd, coinciding with our home game against local rival Moorabbin, we encourage all to head down to Sandy and support this great cause.
All senior teams will be home on this day. There will be more information coming soon on activities for the day, and how you can help as we head into the new year.
Let’s paint Tulip St teal on February 3rd!
