President’s Update – Happy New Year!

January 9:

A Happy New Year to all club members and families.

I hope it was a great time for all.

Well here we go for the second half of the season which despite a little disappointment towards the run home to Xmas, we find ourselves still in contention in 1s, 2s and 3s and the 4s improving. It will take full commitment and a strong belief in our ability to win to get there but if we play to our best, it is all ahead of us.

Our junior program continues to be in good shape as is evident by the number of guys that will represent Victoria in the National Junior Championships starting this weekend in Sydney.  Also National  Women’s comp will see Lara Watson and Miff Smith also involved a little later, we wish all these players a great tournament, we are proud of you all.

So the first challenge is this Sunday against Preston and then the same in the mid-weeker, unfortunately both out at Latrobe!!! Then we have the return bout against Springvale the following Sunday at home.  All very winnable games if we are on.

Coming up is the last Royals day on Jan 24th and then we have the “Amanda Charity” fixture supporting the Breast Cancer Foundation on Feb 7th. Hoping it will be another well supported day, so get out your pink Royals gear and be part of it. Donations, help and ideas are welcome.

Sadly at the end of Jan we say farewell to the Picchioni family, Tony, Heather, Nathan and Josh, who return to Canada after a long stint at the club.  All will be sadly missed but we wish them the best for their return home.

There have been some improvements around the club over Xmas, with a new back net, bigger dugouts plus a new scorer’s tent; this will all add to the continued improvement of our facilities.

The club continues to be in good shape at the turn in all areas and is functioning well, but once again we ask if anyone can help out, volunteers are always needed to spread the load on the hard working group we have.  Don’t be shy.

So everyone get along and grow the spirit, there’s a lot going on and a huge amount of opportunity ahead for us if we want to take it, let’s take it!!

On behalf of the committee, thanks for what you’ve done, thanks for being involved, we hope everyone has a fantastic successful year ahead and all keep safe and well.
