Whilst the 2020/21 Baseball Victoria Summer League season faces some unpredictability due to the Covid19 pandemic the Sandringham Royals will move into the competition with one certainty; the appointment of a new Club Coach.
The Sandringham Royals are proud to officially announced the appointment of Marshall Skinner as Club Coach for Summer 2020/21. Marshall has been appointed following a lengthy process that saw numerous applicants nominate their services to the club.
A 4 person sub-committee headed by Club President, Rick Wills was tasked with assessing all applicants and making the appointment. “The process was very important to us as a Club, and we had significant discussions with a number of high calibre baseball people and we are delighted to offer Marshall the opportunity to step up as Club Coach following two seasons of assisting”, Wills said.
Marshall Skinner and his family have been around the Club for a number of years and the coming summer season will see him take the reins of the developing list.
“It’s an exciting opportunity to take the Club forward”, Skinner said on hearing of his successful appointment, “I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve.”
Reflecting on the young playing list he said, “These guys need to know that we back them, and that we are keen to develop them further to bring the Club the success it deserves.”
Skinner is one of the most respected coaches in the State, winning 5 premierships with Greensborough, along with considerable success including an U18 National Championship with Victoria Blue State team. As a player he won premierships with Preston, and an ABL title with the Waverley Reds.
“My playing career was important to me, but right now I’m enjoying coaching and more importantly enjoying becoming a better coach. Working in the State program has offered me new ideas and skills, and that’s what will be important for us at the Royals. If I wasn’t still learning – and keen to learn, there’s no point in coaching”
