In front of a full house at the Sandringham Clubrooms on Wednesday, the club conducted it’s AGM and election of Office Bearers for 2018/19.
Playing numbers remained strong in 2017/18, and the club put out 20 teams for the season, including 13 Junior teams. It was a busy and exciting year, landing the club with 3 Junior premierships, and strong gains across our Senior group.
The club reported also that it remains on a strong financial footing, and even though it was impacted by the top diamond being unavailable, reducing canteen sales, we maintain a strong surplus into 2018/19.

During the meeting, President Tony Beaumont announced that he would be stepping down from the role for the coming season. Tony stepped into the role at a difficult time for the club, taking over from Greg Street during his illness 2 years ago. In that time Tony has served the club with dignity and passion, and the great position the club is in today is in many ways due to his tireless work as president. We thank him greatly for his service, and look forward to seeing him around the club as a parent, supporter, and maybe a player again!
Also, Secretary Andrew Flynn announced he would also be stepping down from the committee. In his 3 years as secretary, Andrew has been instrumental in maintaining the sound administration of the club, and his battles with Baseball Victoria we believe have been instrumental in BV instigating a number of initiatives to try and make the running of the competition smoother. We thank him for his efforts.
Graham Trad and Gary Seignor also announced that they would not be seeking re-election to the committee. Graham, a former secretary of the club, and Gary running sponsorships, have both have made significant contributions and we thank them for their work.
The club is proud to announce its committee and leadership for 2018/19.
Rick Wills was elected President of Sandringham Baseball Club. Rick is no stranger to those around the club, and his tireless work on our Junior program is the main reason many of us are here. We congratulate him on his appointment.
Marty Smith was elected Vice President. It is great to have Marty back in an executive role, as a previous president, he brings a wealth of experience to the group.
Greg Street was elected to the role of Secretary. To have Greg back in an executive role after his illness is fantastic.
Julie Lane was re-elected as club treasurer, and we know that our finances are in safe hands under her control.
We also welcome 2 new committee members to the team. Julie and Tyler Fontana have been around the club over the past few years, with their involvement in the juniors well respected. We look forward to their input in 2018/19.
Steve Smith, Darren Wilcox, Ralph Watson and Michael Socic were all re-elected for another term.
The club looks forward to a prosperous 2018/19 season. Under the guidance of coach Paul Rutgers and his team, the club is well positioned to improve our status as a strong Division 1 club. We thank 2017/18 club coach John Hussey for his work, he has put together a sound foundation on which Paul and his team will surely build upon in the coming season,
