A mixed round for your Sandringham Royals this weekend.
A washout Saturday afternoon saw the One’s season come to a wet and disappointing end. Despite their record, they missed out on finals. Had we been playing on the other side of the draw our record would have ensured that we would have competed in the post season.
Earlier on Saturday our Women played in their first final and were comprehensively beaten by Moorabbin. It was a tough loss after playing so well all year with the only bonus being a second chance this coming weekend.
A cracking game in beautiful weather at Jack Guiliano Field didn’t finish the way we would have liked either for Mat Taylor’s Three’s. Stellar pitching from both teams made for a tight game, and with limited hitting early the Royals 3 runs looked to have them in the box seat. A string of timely hits for Berwick though saw the game swing into extra innings – but the Cougars ended up too good. A massive year for the three’s and a frustrating end.
Mixed news from the junior post season too;
In what was clearly one of the games of the season our U18’s went down 1-0 to a solid Waverley team.
Rick Will’s U16 State were bested by a formidable Essendon outfit. Competitive all season, the team just couldn’t find the offense when it needed to.
The little team that could – U16 Metro, Sandy Saints scrapped their way into the finals season but couldn’t hold on against a talented Bonbeach side. The Saints were on top for 4 innings but couldn’t finish it off.
Junior League news however was much better – with both sides picking up wins to advance to an ALL Royals Grand Final this coming Sunday morning. Congrats to both teams for an awesome season the Club is proud of both teams for the way they have gone about it!
Finally, Friday night’s Intermediate League team had a resounding win against Chelsea. Some great pitching, tremendous defence and some solid hitting saw 2 home runs plus numerous extra base hits. The IL team will take on a combined Chelsea/Bonbeach team in the Final.
Lastly our Masters 45+ will play in a Monday night blockbuster Grand Final at Jack Guiliano Field following there win over Malvern last Monday night. Congrats to all the “boys” – and good luck on Monday.
