Senior Scorecard – Round 4

October 22nd:

We finished our 2 game series with Waverley as we started, sweeping them again with all senior teams victorious.

At Tulip St, we got off to a great start, with the 2s having a 7 – 2 win.  Declan Croker did it on both sides of the plate, going 5 innings only giving up 2 runs, and then getting 3 hits, as the Royals broke out with 4 runs in the 6th to put the result beyond doubt.

After last weeks run fest, the 1s return match with the Wildcats turned into a tight pitchers battle.  Import Peter Gehle had his first start for the Royals and did not disappoint….after giving up a run in the first he settled into the game, going 6 innings and striking out 7.  With the bat, the Royals scored all of their runs in the 3rd, with RBIs to Rutgers and Meyer.  Lefty and Brandon Stenhouse closed out the win, which put the Royals at 3-1 for the season, our best start for a couple of years.

At Napier Park, the 3s got an equally fine pitching performance, with Matt Taylor blanking the Wildcats with 7 innings of controlled pitching.  3 hits each to Mattern and Skinner highlighted the offense with the Royals scoring consistently during the match.  The 4s got over the line in a tightly fought game with a baulk giving the Royals the go-ahead run late, as they won 6-4.

So after 4 rounds, we have our senior teams with the following records:

1s:  3 wins 1 loss

2s:  4-0

3s:  2-1-1

4s:  3-1

This week we are playing Fitzroy, who are also off to a good start across their senior teams, the 1s and 2s are out at Merri Park, the 3s and 4s at Tulip St. We look forward to a big crowd coming out to support the boys.

Go Royals!
