A win and a loss was the upshot of this weekend’s clashes with cross-highway rivals, Cheltenham.
In the State League, Sandringham won 9-4 on the back of some consistent hitting by the top of the Sandy order. 3 hits each to Luke and Josh, and 2 each to Jai and Taj, contributed to 13 all up by the Royals. Aggressive baserunning by Sandy saw Chelt commit 5 errors in the field. Sandy scored runs in almost every innings, 2 in the 1st, 1 in the 3rd and 4th, 3 in the fifth and 2 in the 6th. On the mound, Dylan, Jai, Luke and Josh shared the duties, and gave up only 2 hits for the game.
In the Metro League, the Royals scored 2 runs in the bottom of the second, to take an early lead, however in the top of the 3rd, Chelt scored 7 runs, which put the game away for the Rustlers. The Royals were not able to rustle up much offense, with only 3 hits for the game, and the pitching combination of Gareth, Marty, Josh and Riley battled hard, but couldn’t keep the Rustlers off the bases. Riley came away with the best numbers with 2 innings pitched, 3 hits and 1 earned run.
Going into the final game before Xmas, the State team is sitting 2nd with an 8-1 record, and the Metro team is sitting 5th with a 2-8 record.
