Sandy v Pakenham 1 June at Jack Guiliano Field
Our Winter Royals cruised to a reasonably comfortable 10-4 victory on Saturday against a gallant but under-performing Pumas team.
The Royals are now sitting at 6-1 and in second position.
We enjoy the rare luxury of having two complete batteries to interchange throughout the season. This week it was Dave McKinnon starting with Steve Lester in relief pitching to Scott McLaughlin. Each one performed their role well with the pitchers surrendering just three hits and five walks for the day along with claimng five strike outs.
Some good plays were made around the ground with Josh Smith again looking ominous at third, Ben Kaplin learning the ropes at first and young Matt Kaplin taking a fine low diving catch in Centrefield.
Notable in the 14 hits we strung together was Rob Anthony whose triple in the first started the scoring, Josh with two hits including a running bunt, Dave Morehouse 2 hits, Dave Mckinnon 2 hits and Scott McLaughlin with 2 doubles and a walk.
More singles were in the book to Steve Lester, Ruby Smith, Ben Kaplin, Marty Smith and Andy Holten
Again the players are grateful for the generous contributions of Geoff Francis who scores in the warm clubrooms when at home, Andrew Gluth who umpires around set tea breaks and of course Greg Street who runs the canteen and bar and entertains the small but dedicated spectator fleet.
The ground was damp after the wet weather but Fuzzy had the lines looking great and all the cutouts and home plate in mint conditions Thanks everyone
We have a break this weekend due to the Provincial Championships but resume on the 15ht v Dingley at Dingley .
